’99 Planet Cross

Owner: Gernot Huber

From: New York, USA

Paint: Orange to Red Fade

Comments: 9 speed Shimango setup with Campy Veloce brifters and low normal Shimano XTR derailleur. Took some dialing in and getting used to, but I am very pleased with the result.

Oh, btw, the photos are from before the conversion to a Shimango drive train. I also switched the brakes to Shimano BR550 cantis which work well, though I the chatter I got under heavy braking with the Dia Compes is not completely gone. I am in Thailand for the next year or so and only brought my commuter/cross/touring bike (1990 Fisher Sphinx), but when I am back I will try a fork-crown mounted brake cable hanger, though the braze-on for that will have to be added. If anyone has other recommendations for controlling brake chatter on a Planet X, let me know. (The fork I believe is Steelman-made, or at least the drop-outs say Steelman, and someone told me Steelman used to make the forks for Planet Xs.)
